Why We Use Buffalo Horn and Pakka Wood

Buffalo horn and pakka wood couldn't be more different as materials, but both have earned their place on our bench for the same reason: they hold up to decades of real use without losing what makes them beautiful.

Buffalo horn is dense, slightly flexible, and naturally water-resistant — properties that come from the same keratin structure that makes it durable on a live animal. Polished, it develops a deep, almost translucent shine that only improves with handling.

Pakka wood is a stabilised hardwood, impregnated with resin under pressure until the wood grain is essentially sealed inside a polymer matrix. That process is what lets it resist the swelling, cracking and staining that would eventually ruin an untreated wood handle exposed to kitchen or field use.

Both materials are shaped, pinned and finished entirely by hand in our workshop, sanded through successive grits until the surface is glass-smooth before a final buff brings out the depth of the material.
